Every question comes with its correct answer, a plain-English explanation and the N.C. General Statutes or N.C. Administrative Code citation it rests on. These are original practice questions, not actual exam questions: we wrote them against the Pearson VUE North Carolina content outline, and nothing in the file replaces the official candidate handbook.

If you searched for an NC life insurance exam questions and answers PDF, this is the file: 1,056 printable practice questions for the North Carolina life, health, property and casualty producer exams in one download. The first section is the 60 North Carolina-law questions that power this site's NC mock exams - 18 life, 18 health and 24 property and casualty - written for the state-law part of the two-part NC exam and cited to Chapter 58 of the General Statutes and Title 11 of the Administrative Code. After them come the 996 national questions the general part draws on. No registration, no email, no watermark. Last updated September 2026.

North Carolina exam facts (verified July 2026)

Every North Carolina producer exam is delivered by Pearson VUE and scored on a 0-100 scale; you need a scaled score of 70, which is not the same thing as answering 70% correctly.

Two things about the NC exams trip up candidates who studied for another state. First, North Carolina tests Property and Casualty as separate licenses with separate exams - there is no combined P&C exam - so the 24 property and casualty law questions in this file serve both sittings. Second, prelicensing education: None - repealed effective October 1, 2025. You can schedule the exam without a course, which makes a complete question bank with explanations more important, not less.

Verified July 2026 from the Pearson VUE North Carolina Insurance Licensing Candidate Handbook (October 2025, #123400) - read the official handbook at Pearson VUE. Where this page and the current handbook disagree, the handbook is right and we owe a correction.

The North Carolina law topics this PDF covers

The state-law part of the NC exam is written from Chapter 58 of the North Carolina General Statutes (the insurance code), Chapter 20 (motor vehicles), Chapter 97 (workers' compensation) and the Department of Insurance rules in Title 11 of the N.C. Administrative Code. Every question in the file cites one of them. By line:

Sample North Carolina questions with answers

One question per line, reproduced from the PDF's answer key without edits - each picked because North Carolina's rule differs from the NAIC model most national guides teach.

Question 1 (Life). A North Carolina resident held three life policies totaling $650,000 of death benefit with an insurer that becomes insolvent. What is the maximum the North Carolina Life and Health Insurance Guaranty Association will cover for that one life?

  • A. $100,000, matching the cash value sublimit
  • B. $300,000 for all life insurance benefits combined, including cash values
  • C. $300,000 in death benefit plus a separate $100,000 in cash value
  • D. $500,000, because multiple policies were issued

Answer: B. $300,000 for all life insurance benefits combined, including cash values. North Carolina applies a single combined cap of $300,000 with respect to any one life for all life insurance benefits including cash values, regardless of how many policies were issued. This differs from the NAIC model approach of separate death benefit and cash value sublimits, so an answer splitting the cap is wrong; the $500,000 figure applies to health benefit plans, not life. See N.C.G.S. 58-62-21(b)(2), (b)(6).

Question 2 (Health). A producer trained in another state tells a North Carolina client that proof of loss on an individual health claim is due within 90 days of the date of loss. What is the correct North Carolina period?

  • A. 60 days after the date of loss
  • B. 90 days after the date of loss, matching the NAIC model
  • C. 120 days after the date of loss
  • D. 180 days after the date of loss

Answer: D. 180 days after the date of loss. North Carolina deviates from the 90-day period used in the NAIC model and most states: written proof of loss is due within 180 days after the termination of the period for which the insurer is liable on periodic-payment claims, and within 180 days after the date of loss for any other claim. The 60-day and 120-day figures do not appear in the provision at all. See N.C.G.S. 58-51-15(a)(7).

Question 3 (Property and casualty). A North Carolina producer writes a new personal auto policy in 2026 with the statutory minimum limits. Which statement about the policy's required liability and underinsured motorist (UIM) coverage is correct?

  • A. Minimum limits are 30/60/25 and UIM is optional at the insured's election
  • B. UIM is required only if the insured buys limits above the statutory minimum
  • C. Minimum limits are 50/100/50 but UIM can be rejected in writing
  • D. Minimum limits are $50,000 per person, $100,000 per accident for bodily injury and $50,000 for property damage, and UIM coverage is included in all new and renewed policies

Answer: D. Minimum limits are $50,000 per person, $100,000 per accident for bodily injury and $50,000 for property damage, and UIM coverage is included in all new and renewed policies. Legislation effective July 1, 2025 (S.L. 2023-133, as amended by S.L. 2024-29) raised North Carolina's minimum liability limits from 30/60/25 to $50,000 per person and $100,000 per accident for bodily injury and $50,000 per accident for property damage, and provided that underinsured motorist coverage is included in all new or renewed policies from that date. Option A states the pre-July 2025 limits and the old rule under which minimum-limits policies did not carry UIM. Option B describes the former rule that UIM applied only to policies written above the minimum. Option C is wrong because UIM is now part of every new or renewed policy rather than rejectable at minimum limits. See N.C.G.S. § 20-279.21, as amended by S.L. 2023-133.

Rules that changed recently

Older NC study guides and flashcard sets still teach the pre-2025 rules on several of these points. The questions below were reviewed on September 28, 2026 and state the law as it now reads:

  • Auto liability minimums and UIM (effective July 1, 2025). The minimum limits rose from 30/60/25 to 50/100/50, and underinsured motorist coverage is included in every new or renewed policy rather than only in policies written above the minimum - N.C.G.S. § 20-279.21, S.L. 2023-133 as amended by S.L. 2024-29. If your material says 30/60/25, it is out of date.
  • Producer plus adjuster licenses (effective July 2, 2024). Senate Bill 319 repealed G.S. 58-33-26(p), so a property, casualty or personal lines producer may now also hold an adjuster license; the same act let either the insurer or the producer file an appointment cancellation under § 58-33-40(e).
  • Annuity recommendations (effective January 1, 2023). North Carolina incorporated NAIC Model Regulation #275 as adopted in 2020, so fixed and fixed indexed annuity recommendations are judged under that standard - 11 NCAC 12 .0462.
  • Prelicensing education (October 1, 2025). Per the handbook the NC exam facts were verified from, the prelicensing course requirement was repealed effective October 1, 2025. That is an exam-eligibility change, not a tested rule, but it changes how most candidates prepare.

When a cited section is amended, the affected question is rewritten, the PDF is regenerated, and the "last updated" line at the top of this page moves with it.

How to study with this PDF

  1. Start with the NC-law section for your line - 18 questions for life, 18 for health, 24 for property or casualty - and answer on paper before opening the key. The state-law part is the part no national guide covers.
  2. Read the explanation for every question, not just the misses. NC's numbers are deliberately different from the model acts: 180 days for health proof of loss where most states use 90, a single $300,000 guaranty cap where the NAIC model splits it, 60 days' notice to nonrenew an auto policy but 15 to cancel for nonpayment. The exam rewards knowing which number is North Carolina's.
  3. Sit the timed 60-question, 75-minute NC mock for your line online - life, health or property and casualty. It mixes the NC-law questions into the national bank the way the real two-part exam does and explains every answer.
  4. Then work through the national section for your line in this file. Remember the passing standard is a scaled 70, so aim well above 70% on practice sets rather than treating 70% as the finish line.
  5. Sitting both Property and Casualty? The 24 property and casualty law questions cover the state-law part of both exams; do them twice, once before each sitting.

Frequently asked questions

Are these the actual North Carolina insurance exam questions?

No. They are 1,056 original practice questions - 60 written against the North Carolina state-law part of the Pearson VUE content outline and cited to the General Statutes and Administrative Code, plus 996 for the general part. Real exam questions are confidential; any site selling "actual" NC exam questions is selling something fake or stolen.

Does it cover the NC state law section of the exam?

Yes, and that is the point of the file. The North Carolina exam is two-part - general knowledge plus NC state law, scored together - and the 18 life, 18 health and 24 property and casualty questions at the front of the PDF are written for the state-law part, from Chapter 58 of the N.C. General Statutes, Chapters 20 and 97, and Title 11 of the N.C. Administrative Code.

Is one file enough for both the Property and the Casualty exams?

North Carolina tests Property and Casualty separately, each with 60 questions in 75 minutes. The 24 NC-law questions cover the state-law part of both, and the 390 national property and casualty questions cover the general part of both, so yes - but study the property-focused and casualty-focused questions before the matching sitting.

How current is it?

The exam facts were verified in July 2026 from the Pearson VUE North Carolina candidate handbook dated October 2025, and the newest questions were reviewed on September 28, 2026. They already reflect the 50/100/50 auto minimums and universal UIM effective July 1, 2025, the 2024 repeal of the producer-adjuster license bar, and the repeal of prelicensing education effective October 1, 2025.

Can I print it?

Yes. It is a 209-page text PDF, not a scan, with the questions first and the answer key at the back, so you can print the question pages alone and check them later. Please keep the source line on it and do not resell it.

Do I need to register or give an email to download it?

No. There is no signup, no email and no payment. The download button at the top opens the file directly in your browser.
