New York Life and Health Insurance Practice Exam Free - 2026

New York's Department of Financial Services lets candidates who want both the Life and the Accident & Health lines sit one combined exam, Series 17-55, instead of the separate 17-51 (Life) and 17-52 (Accident & Health) exams. PSI administers it: 150 items in 2.5 hours, and the same 70% cut score as the single-line exams.

How the New York life and health exam works

PSI publishes the outline as percentage weights. Insurance regulation is 7% of the combined exam, and the remainder splits between life topics (basics, policies, provisions and riders, annuities, federal tax and qualified plans, life settlements) and health topics (basics, provisions, disability, medical plans, the Affordable Care Act, group and blanket coverage, government plans, and coverage for seniors and special-needs individuals). Because New York's prelicensing requirement doubles for the combined line, most candidates who take 17-55 already hold a 40-hour certificate.
