How the Texas life and health exam works
The exam has two timed parts scored together: 100 general-knowledge questions drawn from the national Life, Accident and Health outline, then 30 Texas-specific questions on the Insurance Code and TDI rules. Both parts count toward one scaled score of 70, so a weak state section cannot be rescued by a strong national section - and vice versa.

The Texas law section
The 30-question Texas section covers the Commissioner's powers, licensing requirements and continuing education (TIC Chapter 4001-4005), marketing practices and unfair trade practices, then life-only rules (replacement, policy provisions) and health-only rules (HMOs, coordination of benefits, mandated benefits). Every item cites the Texas Insurance Code (TIC) or Texas Administrative Code Title 28.
