The Illinois Property & Casualty producer exam: general and state parts

Illinois splits the Property & Casualty licensing exam into a general (national) part and a state-specific part on Illinois law: Property: General 55 (50+5, 85 min) + State 35 (30+5, 50 min) = 90 q/135 min. Casualty: General 55 (50+5, 80 min) + State 42 (37+5, 55 min) = 97 q/135 min. Time limit: 135 minutes. Passing: Scaled score of 70 required. The general part is what the practice tests on this page drill - policy types, provisions and riders, underwriting, and federal rules - while the state part comes from Illinois's own statutes and regulations, listed in the official content outline.

Candidates who pass the general part but fail the state part usually studied a national textbook and skipped their state's law chapter. Read the outline's state section, note every statute it cites, and confirm the details with the Illinois Department of Insurance.

Study Tip

Study the explanation, not the answer. The real exam words questions differently than any practice bank, so understanding why an answer is correct matters far more than memorizing which letter it was.
