The Montana Life producer exam: general and state parts
Montana splits the Life Insurance licensing exam into a general (national) part and a state-specific part on Montana law: Two portions: General Life 50 scored + 5 pretest (1 hr 15 min) plus State Life 36 scored + 5 pretest (45 min). Time limit: 120 minutes. Passing: 75 (scaled score). The general part is what the practice tests on this page drill - policy types, provisions and riders, underwriting, and federal rules - while the state part comes from Montana's own statutes and regulations, listed in the official content outline.
Candidates who pass the general part but fail the state part usually studied a national textbook and skipped their state's law chapter. Read the outline's state section, note every statute it cites, and confirm the details with the Montana Insurance Commissioner.
